DLSAX is an interesting market-neutral fund run by Doug Cliggott, who I have found to be pretty sharp.

  4. WorldBeta says:

this looks like a stock fund, no?

  5. WorldBeta says:

    already on there

  6. WorldBeta says:

    will check it out

  7. Sean says:

    Sorry about that

  8. Strom says:

I think you could fit LSC into the managed futures category.

  9. idoru says:

    AGC for converts

  10. Tom says:

    FLSRX – fixed income arbitrage

  11. j'adoube says:

    Great additions from all

    Gabelli ABC (GABCX) Merger Arb
Gabell Global Deal (GDL) Merger Arb

AQR Diversified Arb (ADANX, mentioned by you recently)

iShares Intelligent Carry (ICI), another carry trade fund

Lots of covered-call closed-ends, including ETJ, which pursues a fairly sophisticated, risk averse strategy

Also, JPG is managed by Patrick Rogers, same guy who manages GATEX (it's a little riskier)

    DEF isn't a long/short fund

Also, I think room should be made for the oil and gas pipeline MLP funds, with special mention for BSR, an ETN

Here is the ” FundX Tactical Total Return Fund”
    http://upgraderfunds.com/pdf/FundxtacticalTotal...

It is expensive and just coming out of the gate, but it looks like the FUNDX fund (it buys other top-performing funds/ETFs as underlyings, momentum investing style) with the additional option to go to bonds/cash when things turn south based on a confluence technical, sentiment, and fundamental indicators. The time to introduce this fund was a couple of years ago, but this is how fund companies work…

  14. sln says:

You may want to differentiate between bond classes and use LQD and TLT or IEF instead of AGG.

  15. Jeff says:

    1. I also use QQQQ and GLD in my asset class ETFs?

    2. GATEX seems more of a 'Collars' strategy than primarily Covered Calls. BXM or PUT are better measures of covered calls returns, but I know your looking for tradeable funds rather than indices. I'll research this further and let you know what I find.

  16. Jeff says:

I looked further at covered calls funds. BEP (not GATEX) would be the preferred choice there.

  17. Jeff says:

It seems unnecessary to include both DBC and GSP — I guess I don't understand the big distinction between them. I'd prefer that you use only DBC (much more liquid).

  18. pjd says:

You might consider adding the new hedge fund replication ETF (QAI), and under “covered calls” Powershares has a buy-write S&P 500 ETF (PBP).

Arguably, Powershares' Dorsey Wright Technical Leaders ETF could be considered a momentum-based performance hedge fund (PDP), although maybe it's more analogous to quant/rule-based long only active ETFs.

  19. WorldBeta says:

thanks for the list – i only included DEF cause i thought it misleading they named it “Defensive”

  20. WorldBeta says:

good luck – zero info unless you subscribe to some of the institutional info from euro banks.

  21. WorldBeta says:

yeah i was just typing in a list of representative etfs

  22. Matt says:

For bonds, I personally like BND more than AGG. TLT definitely represents an asset class, and should be included. Foreign treasuries (BWX) might be at least as valuable a class as foreign REITs? Also cash is an asset class, so consider including SHY, SHV, or BIL.

I don't consider these core asset classes, but zeros and jnk bonds have their own performance peculiarities; EDV, JNK

Precious metals definitely quack differently than commodities, so I would add CEF or GLD.

I think LSC is going to rank up their with RYMFX eventually.

I don't have a ticker to share, but I would like to see a listed long-short or market-neutral strategy that makes money at least as often as it loses money ;->

  23. WorldBeta says:

whoa! i had no idea there was a zeros ETF (EDV). awesome…
